You don’t have to talk like a therapist to talk

13 July 2026 · The Stand & Rebuild team

A lot of men picture “opening up” as some big, articulate confession — the right words, the right feelings, neatly explained. So they wait until they can do it properly, and properly never comes.

It was never meant to be a performance. “I’ve had a rough week” is opening up. “Can I call you later?” is opening up. You don’t need the vocabulary. You need one honest sentence pointed at one person who’ll take it.

This week, if there’s someone you’ve gone quiet on, send the short version. Not the whole story — just the door. The rest can come later, or never. The point is that you stopped carrying it alone for one afternoon.

Men, let’s talk mental health
Men, let’s talk mental health · Marius Aagaard · TEDxYouth Aagaard’s point lands because he doesn’t moralise: silence isn’t strength, it’s just a habit most men were handed. The part worth keeping is that the first conversation doesn’t have to be deep — it just has to happen. If reading feels like too much today, this is fourteen minutes that make the case better than we can.

Been through something like this?

Your experience could be the thing that gets the next man through his week.
